The Efficiency of Records Management in Selected Private and Public Secondary Schools in Urban Districts of Central Uganda

dc.description.abstract | This study established the extent or quality of records management in selected private and public secondary schools in urban districts of central Uganda, employing cross-sectional and descriptive comparative survey designs. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 161 teachers and 36 school administrators, to answer two research questions on; 1) the extent of records management; 2) differences in the extent of records management between private and public secondary schools. Data analysis was done using frequencies, percentages, means and the student’s two independent samples t-test. The findings showed that there were more male teachers (53.3%) compared to females (46.7%), most of whom were 20-39 years (49.2%) and 40-59 (44.2%), the majority had a bachelor’s degree (74.4%), (31%) had taught for at least 11 years, and most them were from Government schools (64.0%). The extent of records management was generally good (M =3.27) and very good in terms of financial records (M =3.26) and communication (M =3.50). There was no significant difference in the extent of records management between public and private secondary schools (t=0.831, sig. = 0.407). The researcher recommended that schools should stock more ICT facilities like computers and printers to improve records. | |
