Abstract
The East African Community wishes to standardize the nursing profession as away to facilitate regional integration and mutual accreditation of nurses. To inform the process, a consultancy was commissioned in 2014 to develop regional harmonization of nursing and midwifery education in the EAC partner states. One of the recommendations of the consultancy study was to
phase out certificate level nurses and midwives in all the East Africa member states, as a way to boost the quality and professional standing of the nursing profession by promoting diploma-level (Registered) nursing.
